The inspiration is piled on in this one. Find out one way to rock piled on Fenton pieces and jewelry in general by checking this video featuring pieces from the Fenton A/W 2010 collection.
Aside from diamond encrusted jewels by Mouwad, high fashion pieces in Tribal inspired styles ruled the runway at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion show. Powerful long cuffs in either gold or silver made a sexy statement during many parts of the show. Chain bib necklaces were another favorite. These looks translate well for evening wear, and are some of our favorite looks as well. Check out our quick Get the Look guide to see some pieces that can help you re-create some of the 2010 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show looks. Once again, jewelry steals the show!
I absolutely love this video by Glamour. It gives great tips on how to restyle your closet in a dignified way. Don't forget to check out another phenomenal use for a brooch/pin towards the end of the videos!
No matter what your personal style, its hard to go wrong wearing classic neutrals in the fall. This season's rose gold trend makes it easy to pair a metal with browns. Rose gold isn't as harsh against the skin as yellow gold, and isn't as tricky to wear with brown as silver. Brassy gold tones and antiqued silver work as well for neutral Autumn looks. Stones like smoky quartz, moss agate, and jasper work wonderfully. You can easily mix and match any of our pairings for a flawless fall look to throw on and go.

As most may have observed, necklace bibs are very hot right now. It took me a long while to get used to the trend, as I find most bibs to be too bulky and unwearable. After some hardcore web-hunting (I am ridiculously relentless) I DID find some bib necklaces I would invest in, though.
On the grounds that I love all our readers here at JDD, I concluded it's only fair I bestow my totally bodacious bib finds to you all!
To make it fun, I have also comprised some bad looking bibs at prices so high you your brain might explode!
The Good...
This Aqua black dress attached to a bib necklace is an excellent way to prove to others you are the master of bib wear. It's definitely one trendy combo that I have not seen much of yet, and I'm pretty excited to see if more designers begin to run with the "mix".
The Bad...

Now, I'm sure some of you are aware of my love for JTV, but this host unfortunately displayed a grand example of how NOT to wear a bib necklace. Why JTV? WHY???
In my opinion, if you want to go with a bib necklace keep it simple. Don't wear it over green sweaters. Don't let it hang so low that you will be trapping lobster juice onto it. If you follow those three easy steps, I think you will do okay!
Thanks for reading and please be sure to stay tuned next Wednesday for more of Kaity's Finds!
Yesterday I was at a shopping event and watched a customer try on an oxidized bali ring. Sure, women usually look gorgeous in jewelry, and Bali jewelry especially is created to highlight a woman's beauty...but this vignette was something special.
See, this lovely lady was wearing deep red nail polish while she tried on this ring. Who knew? It was strikingly gorgeous.
We highly recommend you try wearing deep red nail polish with an oxidized Bali ring this season for a ridiculously sexy look that works at any age! LOVE LOVE LOVE this.
Hey, I can't resist a good contest. By participating in the Macy's weekly challenge you get the chance to win $100 gift card and you get a coupon just for playing. Today's challenge was from a given list of products at Macy's "Create your Chaperone Look for the Homecoming Dance that is Sure to Make it Known that Your not One of the Kids." I named this look "party momster." What do you think McCauly?
There wasn't much jewelry to choose from in the contest, but I went for understated studs that say I'm mature and sophisticated and a fun statement necklace that says I still like to have fun. I made sure to select flats because I know you'll have chase somebody at SOME POINT during the event...or maybe you're just racing in to get that last cupcake at the end of the night or that perfect impromto photo of cool boy mccheese breakdancing. If you want to vote on the look, browse the looks, or participate, go to http://www.social.macys.com/.
Having a mother who was nationally recognized for her cross stitching talents meant my home was full of ultra-organized plastic containers of of thread in every color you could imagine. Sure I was in friendship bracelet heaven, but what I loved most was the way the thread looked unused when wrapped around its flat cardboard spool and all lined up in tight rows against other spools. Okay so I'm sure they weren't really "spools." I'm sure there is another name for them. Anyway, I always wanted to just mix and match spools in great color combinations. The only problem was I couldn't quite figure out how to wear them thereafter. Maybe I could've stuck them to myself 90's TLC style but I'm pretty sure making bangles like these would've been a much more chic idea. You can build countless outfits around these, but I'm thinking a fall day full of ease with these paired with a boldly colored simple dress...you know, the kind that is short but not too short.
Well you don't have to be a "sensitive" person to be sensitive to jewelry. If you are allergic to nickel or know someone who is, I strongly urge you to read on!
And so we begin...
The other day as I was speaking with a friend about some amazing silver jewelry I found, I noticed a look of dismay on her face. I pondered what could be wrong. So, I asked what was ailing her. In response she told me that she is allergic to nickel.
Feeling bad for having showed her so many pieces that she obviously could not wear, I was compelled to find some beautiful alternatives for her. Thus, my hunt for unique and chic hypoallergenic jewelry began!
After talking to the lovely, Melissa, she informed me that there is a new semi-precious metal alloy formula being marketed as a nickel free alternative to silver. It's called Nebula A.K.A. "The New Silver".
Art Deco Silver Pendant by Charles Rennie Macintosh
For all you "sensitive" silver fans out there, Nebula can make for a really good silver alternative. It's also inexpensive, which is something I could never object to!
Another unique alternative I came upon is simple yet superb. What is it, you say? It's ribbon!
Hows-about some brass?!
Rhodium, anyone? Sea Glass (Definitely a favorite of mine!)
LovelyLeather!
Pretty nice, right? These are not your only options, though! Other hypoallergenic materials are Gold, Titanium Platinum, *Some* Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel, Platinum, Copper, Glass, and Plastic.
So stop crying over the fact that you can't wear nickel, because there are so many other alternatives out there that will kick its butt! As long as you keep an open mind and make sure you know all of the products materials before purchasing, you'll be set.
If all goes according to plan (and thats a serious stipulation) my husband and I might go out to a fondue restaraunt this evening. This has become one of the most exciting things I do in my adult life. Judgements anyone? Either way, these fondue outtings come up about once per season, and honestly they give me something to work towards (since they are so damn expensive - talk about a high margin product). Some people work for a little place in Nantucket, a trip to Fiji...with me, its fondue.
Thoughts of this trip all week have almost over-run jewelry and design thoughts in my mind but of course not entirely. I mean, what jewelry does one want to wear out to a night of fondue? Just for serious kicks I googled something about jewelry to fondue dinners not really expecting to come up with anything. The picture above is what I came up with. Oh what fun...60s, fondue, kinky house parties (for some reason I have this notion that everyone was a-swingin' back then) and awesome earrings...I mean look at that chick's awesome earrings. They appear to be some sort of jagged tied together shells. Anything jagged in jewelry is fab. Eating off of the pool table and owning lava lamps past the age of 16 also gets this picture points in my book. I'm not sure about what appears to be a fondue pimp's ill tucked in shirt but most things are great about this picture...oh, except the fact that the whole party of guests are all dipping into the same fondue pots. O-M-G. They might as well be swingin. A tad bit obsessive germ-a-phobic me doesn't really enjoy that too much. If I was hosting this party, each person and their date would get their own little pot. Happy fondue friday...now what should I wear?
This also reminds me that having a jewelry party with fondue (grant it you had two seperate table spaces) would be a fabulous idea, especially if your collection is 60s themed. Maybe you could do it creepy 60's style and have a jewelry swap meet with fondue. Okay I'm going to stop thinking now.
Jewelry in general is on a popularity upswing. In the last two years we've seen many women who weren't previously jewelry wearers start integrating jewelry into their regular wardrobe. Accessories are an easy and relatively inexpensive way to get the most out of limited outfits and still look great in a challenging economy. The rise of the statement necklace made bold jewels common and acceptable to the everyday working women. Five years ago you couldn't turn on the news and see the latest in jewelry around the anchor woman's neck. Now you certainly can do that daily. This season bangles and bracelets are making a comeback in various materials, stacked in clusters or worn alone. Whether costume, silver, real gold, or genuine gemstone, earrings are a best seller. Statement, right hand, and cocktail rings are very popular as well. This season's trends include red and purple accessories. Think bold coral and ruby tones, amethyst, purple cz, and other colored jewels. Animal jewelry is big this season as well.

Freebird, doves, birds of peace, 70's style seagulls...call them what you will but I just think they're always a great casual look. Today I wore my "soar above it all" stud earrings and "dove love" bracelet both in sterling silver to create a subtle theme without feeling too dressed up! I topped it off with a conductor cap (easy hair day - $9 at Target) for an all too rare trip to my local mall. Unfortunately, its extremely rough to get a picture of a bracelet and earrings in the same shot using only one hand and an iPhone 3 camera, but I tried my best. When it comes to modeling - I'll stick to writing, but I managed to get a couple pictures and even shot (gasp) profile shots. This shows just how much I love you! Please be forgiving to the snapshots! <3
{This HAT is really GRAY, not blue - ahh, cameras!}
Being fortunate enough to be involved in the jewelry world, I've had the opportunity to meet a fabulous variety of people and personality types. (I could go on forever about just how much you can tell about a person by their taste in jewelry. I could also speak volumes about how amazingly intimate and sentimental jewelry is for many men and women alike. I'll save all that for a future post!) ..but when it comes to rings, I've met only two kinds of people - those that love them, and those that hate them. Sometimes the ability to wear rings depends on a person's lifestyle and occupation. Generally, athletes don't wear that many rings for example... I guess we "jewelry people" can forgive them for that. For some, distaste for rings stems from a negative perception of one's hands. People that have this issue do not like to call attention to their hands. To this, I say, I've seen a lot of hands, and I haven't seen any that rings wouldn't look lovely on..
...that all being said, I have to say the majority of people who don't wear rings, are scared to wear rings. They simply feel they don't know how to wear them. They often don't admit it, and come up with alternate excuse..they're not fooling me. I'm here to tell youthere is NO "right" or "wrong" way to wear rings, especiallytoday! If you are one of these people, I insist you cast your fears aside, and honor your miraculous digits. Rings are sexy (or just very pretty for those of you who might fear the "s" word!) I don't care if you wear them on one finger, all fingers, right hand, left hand.. just remember to rock them confidently, and they'll bring nothing but admiration (and something to fidget with when you're bored or worried!)
Even though I want you to remember the best way to wear rings is the way YOU want to wear rings, all in good fun, here is some interesting info about the historic symbolism of rings. Each culture and time period seems to hold their own set of suggestions for wear as well as mythology surrounding the ring wearer. Many know about the American modern engagement and/or wedding band being worn on the left ring finger, but here are a few other things to check out:
Historic symbolism and significance of rings:
(reverse the following information if you are left handed)
Symbolism of the Hands:
Right Hand: the right hand is the "giving" hand (I didn't make this stuff up people ; )
(alternate viewpoint: right hand represents your future)
Left Hand: the left hand is the "receiving" hand
(alternate viewpoint: left hand represents your past)
This means that a historically a ring worn on a particular finger on the right hand is symbolic of giving, sharing, or exemplifying the particular quality that finger is associated with (see below)
Wearing rings on the left hand is said to symbolize the receiving of, or to allow the wearer to receive whatever is associated with the particular finger. (see below)
Symbolism of the fingers:
Believe it or not, many cultures and belief systems still honor the naming of the fingers by greek gods as follows:
*Littlest or "pinky" finger: "Mercury"
symbolic of being receptive and communication
*Ring finger (next to pinky): "Apollo"
symbolic of creativity, compassion, artistic expression, connectedness (to nature and the world)
*Middle finger: "Saturn"
symbolic of responsility, self regulation, human law, awareness of right and wrong, morality
*Pointer (index) finger: "Jupiter"
symbolic of POWER, authority, self confidence, and everything that goes with it. Think large and in charge cocktail rings these days. ; )
*Thumb: (not otherwise named)
symbolic of willfulness, hopefulness, assertion (More and more people are starting to wear thumb rings, could it be that we could use a little hope and strength in persistance?)
Use this information however you'd like, but no matter what, I don't care if you wear blingy rings, plain rings, crafty rings, or edgy masculine rings, its time to ditch your fear of rings today. Melissa said so. <3 (see, to write this post, I must be wearing an index finger ring on Each hand. I want to give and receive confidence! ahh, applications. You don't have to look at it mystically, but maybe simply to remind yourself of your focus for the day.)
Whether you're kicking off the first few weeks of summer in the Hamptons or Boise, Idaho what to wear to that inevitable Fourth of July picnic is probably on your mind. Chances are things won't be too formal, but let's face it, drawing the line between between over dressed and under dressed at these sorts of affairs can be tricky. Jewelry is always a great solution to this dillemma. Sure, I know you are tempted to go without due to the 90 degree weather or maybe you fear that jewelry is always "too-much" for a picnic. Resist the sans jewelry urge and you won't regret it! The trick is to keep it simple. You can take shorts and a tank from dumpy to above it all cool-casual with just two simple pieces of jewelry. Going with either earrings and a bracelet, or earrings and a necklace ensures that you never have too many pieces on! I prefer to even keep the earrings as simple as a stud on picnic days. Save the over sized art pieces and hoops for serious resort wear! Here are a few simple picks for earring/bracelet combos. You likely have something in your collection already like these pieces...so throw on shorts and a tank, pop on your two pieces and you're ready to go worry free! Don't waste any more time..you need to get to the "right" bowl of potato salad before everybody else does!
