Kaity's Finds: Kaity Shares her Favorite Shoes in the World

How's this for a little bit of midweek fun?  It's Wednesday, the weather is a bit less than bright and sunny, and you feel inspiration tank running low...what's a girl to do?  The fix is simple - take a peek into Jewelry Dose Daily contributor Kaity Stardust's shoe collection.  Trust me, it rivals the beloved Carrie Bradshaw's collection in sheer numbers.  Whether its vintage or shiny and brand new that gets you going, Kaity's got a shoe that will unleash your inner stylist.  That being said, you might guess she has trouble choosing one absolute favorite - but it's simply just not so!  This girl knows what she loves! The quintessential over three inch heeled psychedelics (seen left) are officially on the record as the all time favorite shoes of Kaity Stardust... there's only one problem!  They're a vintage find and the maker's mark has been worn away.  Think you can help her find out their brand?  We'd also love to know if you have a favorite shoe of all time!  If so, please join in the fun and share it with us!

Kaity's Finds: Are you Really Sensitive?

Well you don't have to be a "sensitive" person to be sensitive to jewelry. If you are allergic to nickel or know someone who is, I strongly urge you to read on!

And so we begin...

The other day as I was speaking with a friend about some amazing silver jewelry I found, I noticed a look of dismay on her face. I pondered what could be wrong. So, I asked what was ailing her. In response she told me that she is allergic to nickel.

Feeling bad for having showed her so many pieces that she obviously could not wear, I was compelled to find some beautiful alternatives for her. Thus, my hunt for unique and chic hypoallergenic jewelry began!

After talking to the lovely, Melissa, she informed me that there is a new semi-precious metal alloy formula being marketed as a nickel free alternative to silver. It's called Nebula A.K.A. "The New Silver".

Art Deco Silver Pendant by Charles Rennie Macintosh

For all you "sensitive" silver fans out there, Nebula can make for a really good silver alternative. It's also inexpensive, which is something I could never object to!

Another unique alternative I came upon is simple yet superb. What is it, you say? It's ribbon!

Hows-about some brass?!

Rhodium, anyone?

Sea Glass (Definitely a favorite of mine!)

Lovely Leather!
Pretty nice, right? These are not your only options, though! Other hypoallergenic materials are Gold, Titanium Platinum, *Some* Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel, Platinum, Copper, Glass, and Plastic.

So stop crying over the fact that you can't wear nickel, because there are so many other alternatives out there that will kick its butt! As long as you keep an open mind and make sure you know all of the products materials before purchasing, you'll be set.

Hope you enjoyed this one!

Over and out,
-Kaity Stardust

Kaity's Finds: Steampunk Jewelry

Owltopus by Chinookhugs
Chinookhugs and Voodooville are two jewelry artisans whose designs are inspired by the Steampunk movement (read more about Steampunk below).  I really love their pieces:

I like chinookhugs work especially because she features a lot of unique lockets which are really in right now both in the maintstream and steampunk fashion. The Owltopus is amazing. It's so much more unique than typical "indie rockeresque" owls, octopuses, etc we see gallivanting around everywhere!

Another pick includes this owl from voodooville which is one of the most unique pieces of jewelry I've seen in a long time (raw gears and mobility are staples of Steampunk aesthetic).

What is Steampunk?

The following definitions were taken from Wikipedia: Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes fictional works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used — usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era Britain — but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, often featuring futuristic technology as the people of this historical period would have envisioned it to look like, i.e. based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc....Some fans of the genre adopt a steampunk aesthetic through fashion,[39] home decor, music, and film. This may be described as neo-Victorianism, which is the amalgamation of Victorian aesthetic principles with modern sensibilities and technologies.[40] Some have proposed a steampunk philosophy, sometimes with punk-inspired anti-establishment sentiments, and typically bolstered by optimism about human potential.[41]
