Sadee Says Releases Designer Picks for Mother's Day

We LOVE the Mother's Day Picks at Sadee Says - Pieces You'll Be Happy to Share with Mom!
It's rare that we rant and rave about a website's everyday holiday feature, but when it comes to the Mother's Day selections/feature at http://www.sadeesays.com/ we couldn't help ourselves.

If you're new to this shop, here's a bit of background.  Owner and long time accessories guru Sharon Silfen founded http://www.sadeesays.com/ to bring women all over the world the ability to shop the same amazing pieces she brought to VIP and celebrity clients for years.  Sharon has a laundry list of credentials in the fashion world and is best known for discovering new and emerging design talent well before many others in the biz.  Her picks have been featured on hit shows like Bravo's The Housewives of New Jersey Series among others.

This month Sharon and 'Team Sadee Says' asked the distinguished and talented designers on their website to share their top picks for Mother's Day and to help make Mother's Day shopping easy for Sadee Says clients.  What they came up with is above and beyond what we are used to seeing from other accessories websites out there today.

From new pieces from the Jennifer Elizabeth floral collection to the hip and affordable Ainat bracelet from Calinana, all of these pieces are amazingly gorgeous.  For mom's who only wear silver, the Fevri Rayes Indra Earrings are a hit.  If you have a mom who really loves to glam it up and show off her style you might want to try any of the picks from Roberta Chiarella

These picks literally make Mother's Day shopping a no brainer.  They make it easy to shop for mom's of all ages, with all styles...and best of all, you'll want to bond (wink wink) with mom by sharing these pieces.

Kaity's Finds: Is Bieber going Balistic or is he a Meenie Miny Money Marketing Genius?

So, most of the world has already caught some sort of the "Bieber Fever" whether it be a good or bad type of infection. He's on shirts, commercials, all over the news and radio. Every where I turn I somehow see his face staring back at me.

But, things are getting pretty crazy with this kid. After Thanksgiving, WalMart released Bieber's own nail polish line, perfume, jewelry, and dog tag necklaces with a unisex smell so now you can walk around smelling the Bieber fever every where you frolic.

When asked about his new fragrance he told  WWD that he doesn't go for anything "too fruity" and “I actually like the Britney Spears perfume on girls. It smells good.”

Is he setting himself up as a fad failure or is he really a  marketing teenage genius? How long can he sustain this major marketing charade without making us all deathly sick of him?  Will we forever be stuck in Beiber fever hell? I guess that's something only time will tell... and to be frank, I don't feel that much more time is on his side.

Stay tuned next week for another edition of "Kaity's Finds"!

Love,
Kaity Stardust

Accessories Trend: Points and Strong Angles

With a little help from the  Charles Albert Look Book, we're able to share with you a trend you simply can't avoid this season and for seasons to come.  Rough chiseled pieces in dark colored stones like obsidian are getting hotter every day.  Arrowheads, spears, acute angles...you get the point.  Try this trend for a look that is rugged and sexy, yet easy for daytime!

Speaking of designer Charles Albert, we'll be sharing with you our sneak preview top picks from the newly released Spring Look Book soon.

Kate Spade Goes All "Spencers" On Us?

Kate Spade Left Right Gloves
$65
(Practical? or Practically Ridiculous?)
Alright, so I believe it was a fashion blog that recently stated something like "Ask any 20 something about her first purse and she'll immediately light up with glee and mention Kate Spade."

They also went on to say something along the lines of.....
...those stripes, those simple shapes, the bright colors...they're what separated the hip chicks from the... well "nots" in middle schools across the country. Oh, and if you weren't fortunate enough to have a savvy guardian who bestowed upon you one of these "it" bags, you would've just been sent packing -in whatever else of a no-no you were carrying of course. (Writer, if you're reading, drop a line I'll credit you here!)

That being said, you get the point.  Kate Spade was the girl everyone wanted to be and wear - moving quickly from the kitchen table to the big time, and transcending even farther and farther ever since...but this season, the Kate Spade brand has gone in a direction that may give former middle school outsiders reason to replace their feeling of post traumatic wantonness with a feeling of "huh?"

Kate Spade
"Taxi" Gloves
$65
[Sure, these get by on practicality in New York...but outside the city, might you just look silly?]

That's right, this season (at least part of) the Kate Spade brand has gone from too cool for school chic to, well, a bit daffy...or "Dappy" (remember that?)...even a little Spencer's Gifts.  With novelty pieces that range from bags made to look like typewriters to gloves that are labeled to help you distinguish your right hand from your left hand (for a $65 fee), one may be left wondering, "Do I just not get it?"

Lady With License Plate Purse (NOT a Kate Spade).
No matter how you feel, one must admit that this season's Kate Spade pieces dangerously straddle the line between Harajuku girl and the downfall of that woman in the office's bank account - you know the one that wears seat belt bottle cap belts, blue eye shadow, and carries a new novely purse every day (like the license plate inspired one she got at the truck stop).  I hope you get the picture (see the youthful version above).
Kate Spade
"All Typed Up Clyde"
$495

Although I pride myself in having quite the excellent sense of humor (ahem), for the Kate Spade brand I just don't get some of these pieces, but I'm the last to say designers shouldn't experiment.  Luckily, as it would seem, the brand is no "worse for wear" as it seems 98% of the products they roll out are still perfectly little miss perfect, you know, (sigh) just like back in middle school.

Why have watches grown in popularity despite increased cell phone use?

Vocalist Ke$ha shows off her
 Casio Baby G watches
Form follows Function...Fashion Follows...What?

I've felt it creeping up like the sands of time for the past...oh, say, about four years now - watches gaining traction!  Just when you thought they were dead in the water, they've floated to the top of luxury must have lists (gears in tact and everything! ;)

Has anyone else been a little perplexed by this? Back in the late 1990's when cellular telephones became widely affordable, watches started seem a little uneccessary.  I personally watched the watch shelf space at high end department stores begin to lend itself more and more to clockless jewelry.  Who needs two clocks in a 10 inch radius, right?  Well, this fall's explosion in watch production (timepieces if you're fabulous) by major brands suggests that indeed, we do!

I suppose now that we all have time readily available just a few unlock keys away, the idea of a watch has become even more superfluous...and that by definition, I would contend, is precisely why they have become an even more sought after fashion statement.

Watches from famous brands likely to be best sellers:

Marc Jacobs.
Pirate Miss Marc Watch
175.00 - Bloomingdales

Juicy Couture "J Couture Princess" Watch
95.00 - Bloomingdales

La Mer Collections
130.00 - Bloomingdales

and, let's not forget...
Casio Baby G (Yes, they're back.)  Celebrity vocalist Ke$ha was just named brand ambassador.
79.00 - Bloomingdales

Want to take the trend to the next level of superfluous?  Here's a tip from my last post!

Roman Numeral Clock Purse
http://www.quirkyfinds.com/
...sorry, sold! : )

My grandmother used to pick these up as free gifts at Harrah's down in Atlantic City and give them to me to stash teddy bears in.  Boy am I sad I sold them all...especially the 2 X 3 foot piece in shiny red patent leather.  Oh well, we live and learn.

If you don't want to become a little melancholy, watch this with the sound off for some timepiece love:

The Large Logo Trend in Accessories Finally Winding Down?

Vintage Louis Vuitton
sans Huge Obnoxious Logo
tiny logo pattern doesn't count! : )

If you're somewhere in between your 20's and 40's you know what I'm talking about.  You may have even fallen victim to it once or twice.  Hey, you might be a repeat offender.  I understand if you lived in mainstream America and found it hard to resist.  All your friends were doing it.  Your family was doing it.  Not doing it kind of sort of meant you, well, sucked... by certain ridiculous standards.

I'm talking about
HUGE OBNOXIOUS LOGOS on your accesories!  Actually, those words look pretty chic blown up like that, who knew?  If I had a mind to make some money, I'd put them on a hat, tshirt, or bag (you're welcome for the free idea)....but alas, that's not my point.  Read on.

A recent study conducted by the University of Southern California (USC) Marshall School of Business, is telling us what I've quietly known all along.  You do NOT prove some kind of spectacular financial status with logos.  In fact, you do quite the opposite and here's why...High end brands charge much more for their understated pieces across the board.  In fact in fact, (in my opinion anyway) companies that never would have done this in the first place began doing it to gain middle class market share - enough said!  Now, I'm going to be nice here, because I really truly do believe you should always wear what you want and what you feel comfortable wearing.  Let me ask you this, have YOU ever really felt comfortable wearing HUGE OBNOXIOUS LOGO'D accessories...or did you simply feel "with it."  siggh.... you weren't.  No I kid, I kid.  I mean, you were but...well you know what I mean.

Anyway,  I'd like to point out that my anti huge logo stance does not come from me simply wanting to be a rebel as I'm sure at this point you might be suspecting.  It actually, honestly, comes from my love of DESIGN.  I like design that speaks for itself.  Some branding can be beautiful and fun as well... but obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious branding?  It takes away from the art of the piece.  It really does and this is why I'm happy that we are finally, after YEARS of having it literally in our faces, seeing a small diminishing of this bizarre and ridiculous practice.   Wearing a clock on your purse like Flavor Flave or my grandmother = hillarious fun obnoxiousness.  If you miss your huge labels, I say try that instead!

...on a side note, I have to say one of my first experiences with designer brands was sitting at my grandmother's neighbor's house doing crafts with other neighborhood kids.  I looked over onto the avocado colored chair and saw a brown and tan bag with subtle V's on it.  I think you know where I'm going with this.  Now I know my neighbor wasn't trying to prove social status, otherwise she'd have moved out of one of the most depressed cities on the East Coast (maybe)...but what I did find out about her later was that she had great, understated taste...and a Louis Vuitton bag... WITHOUT a HUGE OBNOXIOUS LOGO...and one that I haven't forgotten in over 20 years.  I'd say that is proof that yes, Less is More.

Adventures with Brooches. Yes, there's a cat on m' head.

I like to call brooches "jewelry for the brave." Although brooches are often intricate, beautiful, and fabulous to hold... wearing them is often a statement too bold for the faint of heart. Let's face it, elderly church ladies wear brooches...and maybe this scares you a little!  I've been scared off from buying brooches, however beautiful to look at, in the past for fear of lack of wearability. Lately, however, I haven't been able to resist picking up brooches of really distinct forms.

This little cat (channeling this Fall's Animalia trend), is something I picked up in a vintage shop a few weeks ago. Usually goldtone, black enamel, and rhinestones would be ALL wrong for me, but with its beautiful flowing form, I knew this brooch would be good for someting...I was thinking clutch accent at first. This weekend graced us with a cool enough day to wear a headband...and I'll do this at every chance I get if I'm running out with no time to do my hair. As luck would have it, this brooch sat staring at me on my dresser as I put the unsuspecting headband on. I just couldn't resist. It was a welcome variation to the well loved feather/flower head accessory trend.

Very very undone messy hair aside, with a pale blonde or jet black bob,
a pin straight to the head just might be stunning.
It should have, by all means, looked a bit strange...but oddly enough, it really didn't. It looked some combination of 1920's, 1950's, Coco Chanel, and Anne Geddes baby headwear. I sported it for the rest of the evening with an off the shoulder sweater and I'm pretty sold on trying different combinations in the future. If I can pull it off, I'm sure it will look even cuter on someone else...so try it!

Just a note:

^...oddly similar to this runway photo from last week's post (I'm no model, and that's no runway...but that IS a black cat on m' head!^)
