Scarves: Easiest Go-To Piece for Spring 2013

Designers have freshened things up for spring 2013 by
re-inventing the classic scarf. - [Photo: Burberry spring 2013

While heavier yet festively adorned scarves always make for practical wardrobe staples during fall/winter, the scarf is one accessory that has often been overlooked in recent spring seasons.  This is absolutely not so for spring 2013.  Big names like Burberry, Dolce & Gabanna, and Ralph Lauren among many others turned to scarves as their stand out accessory for their fashion week spring 2013 runway shows.

From prints like bright feminine florals and cool muted geometrics  to boldy colored solids, designers are serving up just about anything you might be looking for in a scarf this spring.  Those who dread the annual shedding of the plaid each year simply because the days of pumpkin spice lattes and faux fur lined boots are passé' are in luck this season too.  Pastel and citrus-toned plaids can be found on store shelves within all price ranges from target, to jcp, to bloomies and beyond.

Variety can be found in more ways than one when it comes to trendy scarf looks for 2013.  While the classic muffled wrap around is still an undeniable favorite, designers kept things interesting this season by using scarves as hairpieces, fastening them in shorter crisp French inspired knots, and continuing to highlight the juxtaposed ease and sophistication of the turban.  For some more how-to-wear-it scarf tips, you might want to check out Playing with Scarves by fashion industry veteran Anne Touraine.

No matter what your style, finding the perfect go-to scarf this season should be a fairly easy endeavor.  The scarf is quite possibly might be the most versatile accessory of all time, so feel free to style it with both casual weekend looks and for the office as well.  Picking up a few of this season's selections can really help you maximize the most of your current wardrobe.

Is Mitt Romney Selling Bracelets?

Several reports have surfaced from around the country in the last few days about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney “selling bracelets.”  Is it true?  Well of course the answer is yes and no.  The Massachusetts Governer’s campaign is selling bracelets on which he has approved the following message: “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, America Can’t Lose.”  The saying is adapted from one from the once popular primetime TV show Friday Night Lights and is written on the bracelets exactly as Coach Taylor spoke them during episodes of the series.

According to Carina Adly MacKenzie of Zap2it.com, the show’s producer, Peter Berg has slammed the campaign for plagiarizing his work and “misrepresenting the intent behind the mantra.”  The rubber bracelets featuring the new unofficial campaign slogan are made of rubber in the style of the ever-popular Livestrong bracelets and available in red, white, and blue.
Much to Berg’s dismay, the bracelets are still currently on available for $10 each and were recently handed out on the campaign trail.  According to The Huffington Post, the campaign does not plan to stop selling the bracelets.
Many bloggers have pointed out that the "Clears Eyes, Full Hearts" bracelets are embossed with a slogan that only varies slightly from one used by the Obama camp this past spring.

Kitsy Lane Makes it Easier than Ever to Have your Own Jewelry Business

Innovative new jewelry company Kitsy Lane launched just a few short months ago but is making waves throughout the jewelry world via a ripple effect to be exact.  Kitsy Lane empowers individuals to curate their own Kitsy Lane boutiques online, hand selecting the pieces that speak to them and that they know will be most loved by their friends, families, and fans.

CEO Andy Fox officially launched Kitsy Lane on July 24th, 2012 and intended to use it to bring the traditional home party direct selling model to the e-commerce and social selling realm.  According to Erin Dostal of Direct Marketing news, Fox says the idea came to him after his wife hosted a Stella and Dot party last year.  What does this new platform mean for individuals, bloggers, and other motivated entrepreneurs and jewelry enthusiasts?  Now, sharing your love for jewelry and being compensated for it is easier than ever.

Kitsy Lane's platform is customizable and free to get started with.  However, as with any small business, it certainly takes time, heart, and effort.  Kitsy Lane boutique owners, however, are already experiencing just how rewarding being a part of the Kitsy Lane community can be!

Kate Middleton Shops MyFlashTrash, Handpicks Two Emerging Jewelry Designers

Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge caused quite the stir recently when she "shopped" myflashtrash.com, the online accessories website founded and run by UK reality TV star Amber Atherton.  Atherton is known for her appearances on the British reality series "Made in Chelsea" which highlights the midadventures of a several young affluent British socialites.

Although the Huffington Post compared Ms. Middleton's mini shopping spree to "Gwyneth [Paltrow] wearing "Jersey Shore" star Sammi Sweetheart's work-out clothes," the purchases actually don't at all imply that the duchess likes to "slum it" or be "Jersey-style-gaudy."

Myflashtrash.com actually sells pieces from "up-and-coming" jewelry designers that range from cute to to classically classy.  After Abby Keys, PR executive for MyFlashTrash sent over a lookbook of a few designers that she thought would work well for the duchess, she soon received a request for seven different pieces from the site for Ms. Middleton to wear on her upcoming tour of Asia.

Kate Middleton chose pieces by Scotland based designer Catherine Zoraida and from the British based Serretta Morris.  Zoraida's pieces feature abstract and organic forms in beautiful goldtone while Morris's pieces feature luxurious natural gemstones... each classic and safe choices for the duchess.

The Duchesses MyFlashTrash Faves: Double Leaf Earrings, Ash Leaf & Adventurine Earrings, Spread Your Wings Bracelets and a Conch Cuff from Zoraida, and Vermeil Earrings and Red Sponge Coral Earrings designed by Morris.

Chic Pumpkin Inspired Jewelry... It Does Exist.

From lattes to pies to candles, soaps, and shampoos, we’re bombarded with pumpkin laced products at the first sign of fall each year.  If you’re like me, you probably welcome the opening of the pumpkin flavored flood gates and might even jump the gun a bit early making a cup of pumpkin spice coffee before late August even rolls in.  Hey, there’s nothing wrong with a little pre-harvest enthusiasm.  In general it’s a pretty innocent and quite fashionable obsession… but when it comes to pumpkin jewelry, would one be taking it too far?  Sure sporting some gourd-inspired jewels is one way to show your love for all things pumpkin, but you may want to be careful lest you end up looking just a little too kooky… talk about some real “man-repeller” fashion... like, really… not the ultra “high indie fashion” kind.

Don’t worry, though!  If you simply can’t hold back your urge to bring your autumnspiration from the inside out, the following jewelry designers have offered a way to keep it safely chic.

How do you like these pumpkin inspired pieces?  Do they make you a believer in pumpkin-chic style?  ...and okay so admit it, you're really hungry for pumpkin pie right about now.
